Through his research, he has co-developed multiple machine-learning applications to extract meaning from unstructured text and provide insights into executive personality, corporate governance, risk and performance. His work has been published in the Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, Journal of Management, Organization Science and Strategic Management Journal, among others. Prior to receiving his Ph.D., Harrison worked as a consultant and technology lead with PwC in Washington, D.C., and as the assistant to the CFO for PartnerMD, a small concierge medical practice in Richmond, Virginia.

Executive MBA

An expert on organizational strategy, Joseph Harrison helps students develop the judgment needed to understand complex business environments, make better enterprise-level decisions, and create sustainable competitive advantage.

With prior consulting experience at PwC, Harrison brings an applied perspective to the classroom while also drawing on his research at the intersection of strategic leadership and artificial intelligence. His teaching is highly interactive, asking students to question assumptions, debate alternatives, and apply strategic concepts to the real challenges facing their organizations. Rather than simply learning strategy frameworks, students are pushed to expand how they think about organizations, competition, and value creation. They leave better prepared to assess complex company situations, navigate strategic tradeoffs, and make integrated decisions that position their organizations for long-term success.
